The Return of Tony Gonzalez

The Atlanta Falcons received some good news this past week when all-star tight end Tony Gonzalez decided to come back to the team. This is fantastic news in fantasy football leagues for money because Gonzo is one of the best tight ends in fantasy football leagues for money. He’s as good as he’s ever been right now and that means he’s going to be one of the top five tight ends drafted this year. His numbers compare favorably with every other tight end in fantasy football leagues for money except for Gronkowski and we all know that Gronk is a freak of nature. So where should Gonzo go in your draft? Well he’s not young anymore and there’s a very good chance that 2013 will be his last season in the NFL so you have to watch out for fatigue or injuries. However that didn’t stop him this past year when he was all but retired at the end of the season.

For 2013 you can expect a very similar Gonzalez. The Falcons are almost exactly the same team from last year though they did upgrade the backfield with Steven Jackson. They don’t have any young tight ends waiting to take Gonzalez’s spot either and with the amount of money they’re paying him it’s unlikely they’d shift directions this season. He’s not going to jump up in terms of production and he’s probably not going to drop off much either. You can expect him to be the third or fourth best tight end in fantasy football leagues for money which would put him squarely in the fifth round of the draft. He may drop a little lower depending on your league but he certainly won’t be drafted any higher than that. Have confidence in Gonzalez and he will richly reward you this season.
